[Any uncertainty he has melts away when Eunyu answers the door and follows it up by leaning up to kiss him. His cheeks pinken slightly. She seems pleased which in turn pleases him.
It's as natural as breathing to let her take his hand as they start to walk.]
Yeah, I know where it is. [And then after a beat:] Unless it's moved.
[He hopes it hasn't moved. It would suck if their date ends up being hunting for a bowling alley rather than actually bowling. But, fortunately, as far as he can tell, the bowling alley tends to be a fairly consistent location. He's not that worried about it.
He glances at her and brushes his thumber over her knuckles.]
( it was a little like putting on an old skin — she hasn't had the chance to wear a skirt in ages, and even if she had, a part of her felt like she'd outgrown them. but. she used to like wearing them — and other soft, feminine things, all in the before times. eunyu can't really decide if it's a regression, slipping back into that comfortable spot, or more like ... healing?
belatedly, she bumps him with her hip. )
So do you. The perfect look to get your butt kicked at bowling.
[The gamer in him knows this should be a cue to get competitive and talk shit, but he doesn't really have any desire to do that with Eunyu, he's too busy being charmed by her and happy that she's here, holding his hand. He also has no real confidence in his bowling ability so it would all be bullshit anyway.]
( drawn out almost conspiratorially, eunyu swinging their hands back and forth. she takes a jumping step forward, in front of him, walking backwards so she can watch him more directly. )
Won't you give me anything? ( head tilted. her expression is soft, but her eyes are a little too intense for a casual question. ) So it doesn't matter if you know what I want. You'll let me have it either way. ( shrug. ) What would you want, if you won?
[Honestly she doesn't have to win for him to give her anything. If she asks him for something he'll try to give it to her.
He blinks at her question. He's not surprised she asked it, really, but it's kind of a hard question to answer. In part because he's not always good at acknowledging what he wants or needs, but also because in this moment he sort of feels like he already has what he wants. Eunyu here and safe, holding his hand.
He glances down at their linked hands and then back to Eunyu.]
What if this is what I want? Maybe I've already won.
[There are other desires he could give voice to, of course, but he's not sure the hallway is the best place to say them.]
( apparently they're equally cheesy, because eunyu's demand was going to be a second date.
as with all the charming, unexpectedly sweet things hyunsu says, eunyu blushes, then rolls her eyes, realigning herself to walk next to him, trying to act like she isn't flushed by seeming endeared instead. it's middling in its effectiveness. )
[If it were someone else, the eye roll might have Hyunsu worried that he said something wrong. But it's Eunyu, and he can tell she's not really upset. If anything, judging by her blush, she's the opposite.
He smiles a little as they approach the staircase.]
Okay. That's fair.
[Secretly now, he's kind of hoping she really does kick his ass because he's curious about what she might pick.]
It's on the third floor. [He says thoughtfully as they start up the stairs.] How's your ankle these days?
[He remembers it was a problem for her when they first met, and while that was over a year ago now, some injuries tend to linger. And it's not like she's had the privilege of being able to go easy on it.]
( still clutching his hand, she places her other one on the railing, helping guide her steps. there's a slightly uncomfortable shrug. )
It's okay.
( but she does pass a small smile in his direction, grateful he even remembered that much. the translation: it's a lasting injury that spikes and ebbs, but eunyu can tolerate a lot of pain, so it doesn't bother her. it doesn't effect her walk, anyway, and it doesn't slow her down on the stairs. all things considered, it's a good ankle day today.
and perfectly adequate for bowling. at the top of the stairs, she looks around the hallway at the various doors, spotting one a little multicolored and weird. she points it out. )
[He makes a small sound of acknowledgement and tucks the knowledge away. She's okay but still hurts sometimes. Not that there's much he can do to help her from a medical standpoint, but he can at least carry her if she needs it.
She doesn't seem to need it now though, she ascends the stairs with little problem that Hyunsu can see and when she reaches the top it doesn't take her long to figure out where they're headed.]
Yeah, that's it. Kind of weird they have space for a bowling alley but no elevators.
[Some sort of crazy rich people logic, he supposes.]
( she says the quiet part out loud, rolling her eyes — this time with a lot more vitriol than was directed at hyunsu. imagine if they got caught in a house like this, rather than green home, when the world went to shit. a lot more resources hiding in the rooms. a lot more corners for monsters to hide in.
eunyu takes the lead, walking to the door and holding it open for hyunsu once she shuffles in. it's a really cheesy, dated place — but it's familiar for that reason too, nostalgic in a way that isn't displeasing. inside, she books them a lane with a few short words, and they get directed to the shoe cubbies to ask for their size. once obtained and exchanged for the pairs of shoes they're currently wearing, eunyu leads hyunsu with a wave of her hand to their assigned lane, watching the cheesy animations light up the screen overhead. )
What do you want your name to be? "Hyu"? ( thinking, ) What about "hot"? In honor of your outfit.
[Hyunsu follows Eunyu to their lane, glances down at his outfit at her suggestion. He blushes faintly at the compliment, but returns his gaze to her with a hint of a smile pulling at the corner of his lips.]
That logic could be applied to you, too, though.
[He's not the only one who looks good here, ok. He would say she is the hotter one between them, but then again he is extremely biased.]
( very amicably, she types hyunsu's name as "hyu" (virtuous, worthy) and hers as "eun" (kindness, mercy). her bowl first. she steps up, lifting a lighter weight ball, and bowls —
not straight into the gutter. there's a little hope she might get one pin before it gives up and nose dives into the gutter. eunyu spins on her heels, pulling a face in hyunsu's direction. )
Told you I'd be bad. Your bowl. ( he props herself up on the machine that loads up the bowling balls, to watch him more up close. very casually, ) You and your monster really have worked something out. I feel like every day I'm talking to a different one of you. ( head tilt ) Are you... happy? Both of you.
[At her scoff, his smile gets bigger albeit maybe a little more shy.
He waits for her to take her turn and when she's done and makes her assessment he counters it.]
You just need to warm up a little.
[Neither of them have done anything like this in a long time. They need to ease into it. Or something.
He pauses at the machine as she leans against it, testing the weight of the balls. The lighter ones feel all wrong to him with his enhanced strength, so he moves on to the heavier ones. He stops to consider her question, though.]
Does it? [Is it good that she feels that way? She doesn't seem mad about it.] I'm getting there. I think...we're learning to accept each other. [Something like that. He settles on choosing the heaviest ball they offer and picks it up.] You're helping. And the people here who don't hate monsters on sight.
[People here seem more accepting that he's kind of a freak, which is nice. He knows that people back home have reasons for their fear, but it was still tiring to deal with.
He heads over to the lane to take his turn. When he releases the ball it's with more of his strength than he intended and the ball ends up skirting the edge of the lane at high speed and slamming into two of the pins in the far corner with an unusually loud crack.
( she means it, too. these days it's hard for her to separate the two of them in her mind — she likes both of them, and likes both of them a lot. hyunsu is soft and thoughtful, his monster is terse and also pretty thoughtful. it'd be impossible to make a choice, so she's glad she doesn't have to.
eunyu straightens up at his bowl, a little worried. that's pretty fast — with the crack of the pins, she instinctively grabs his wrist, as if prepared to push him behind her, as if ready for danger. instead there's ... just the sounds of the lane trying to clean up the shards of the two pins his got. eunyu looks up at him like a spooked deer, before her face breaks open like an egg, grinning brightly. biting back a laugh.
at least until the pimply teen that works here shouts hey! at them. then eunyu's expression drops, turning to glare at him. obviously not ready for any push back, the teenager stops in his tracks, face going pale. )
You need stronger pins. There are some strong people here — what the hell is wrong with this place? Don't you ever think, or plan? Go clean it up.
( she tugs on hyunsu's shirt sleeve while the poor guy retreats, more scared of eunyu than hyunsu who just obliterated those pins like nothing. she looks up at him. )
[For a moment Hyunsu is a little surprised by Eunyu's protective body language, but then, as she yells at the bowling alley attendent, he relaxes. He shouldn't be surprised, really. This is how she was Green Home, too. Always the first to stand up for him and just in general not willing to put up with anyone's shit. She's just going back to her roots, in a way.
He smiles faintly, a blush staining his cheeks as she grabs his sleeve.]
Yeah, let's go. [He catches her hand in his.] What flavors do you like?
( it's a little like night and day, the split between her interaction with literally anyone else and hyunsu. she has an affectionate look for him, their fingers threading together, while they head off towards the little food bar. )
Red. Cherry. ( it still feels luxurious to even imagine, not entirely used to the excess of everything here. weeks ago, she would've thought an extra can of tuna was a jackpot. now? she could probably have a slushie a day and no one would even notice. ) You?
[Hyunsu hums in acknowledgment. Red is good. He has to think for a moment when she turns the question back on him. Like Eunyu, it’s been a long time since he even thought about having something like a slushie. Even after being here for a few months he’s slow to take advantage of all the amenities the house offers.]
Maybe watermelon. [He concludes finally, as they reach the slushie stand.] Do you want anything to eat with it?
( she shakes her head. ) You get something if you want, though. ( her stomach is still a little bubbly from nerves. but she is privately planning to steal something he gets, if he decides to.
she forgets it's probably the more girlfriend-y type thing to let hyunsu order for her, so she does it for him instead, getting their slushies and opening up the space for him, if he wants anything else. predictably, she doesn't even ask before tasting his slushie, offering it back to him along with her own, his to sample. )
[He's not really surprised that she decides to go ahead and order for him. She's the type to take the lead when she can. It's one of the things he likes about her.
He decides to go ahead and order something, as she steps aside to wait for their slushies. He is a 20 year old with a faster than normal metabolism, he is usually hungry, honestly. He orders nachos, though, because he remembers Eunyu mentioning them. Just because she's not hungry right this second doesn't mean she won't be hungry a little later. This way she won't be disappointed if she decides she wants some.
He finishes ordering and turns back to her just as she's sipping his slushie. He feels a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.]
Yeah? What about yours? [He takes his own when she hands it to him, but he also leans in to take a sip of hers.]
( she offers up, shoulders a little tense from feeling it. once hyunsu gets his nachos, eunyu makes sure to lean in close to him while they walk away, siphoning off his warmth.
only, when they start making their way back, eunyu observes people are still clearing out their lane — apparently hyunsu didn't just crack the pins, but a bit of the back wall and working mechanisms too. rather than let him ruminate on that, she points out the arcade to distract him, drinking some of her slushie until her mouth is stained a cherry red. )
Lets check it out before going back.
( not that she knows anything about arcade games — she just doesn't want hyunsu to feel bad. ugh. )
[Hyunsu does not even notice what is happening with the bowling lane, actually, because he is focused on Eunyu. Of course she would be cold drinking a slushie while wearing a sleeveless shirt in December. How silly of him not to think of that.
She's not complaining, though, because she's accustomed to enduring at this point. Instead she's pointing him towards the arcade, which is a little unexpected, but not something he objects to.]
Okay, but, wait. [He pauses to put his nachos and slushie down on the nearest table and then shrugs out of his jacket before moving to settle it around her shoulders.] Here.
( it is, she thinks, maybe the nicest thing anyone's done for her in recent times, which means eunyu doesn't fully know how to react, blinking at hyunsu with her throat bobbing. eventually, she puts her slushie down too, so she can push her arms through the oversized jacket sleeves, rolling them up to her wrists, freeing her hands, which go immediately up to hyunsu's cheeks, frozen. )
Thanks. That was ( she presses her knuckles against his neck, stealing his heat. ) really thoughtful. Very smooth.
( peeling back, she steals a nacho from his bounty, before scooping up her slushie and heading the rest of the way into the arcade. the horror: she has no idea what anything is, eyes going all around before she finds something she recognizes — a photobooth. )
Let's go there. It'll be fun.
( in theory. she at least knows how it works, directing hyunsu to enter before her and pushing him down in the seat, sparing the time it takes to set all their food on a nearby ledge before, in the cramped space, taking a seat down on his knee, and pressing the "start" button. she didn't think of poses beforehand, so the first three go by with little changes, eunyu leaning further back into hyunsu's lap every time. for the last one, she turns, bullying him into a kiss. except. even after the shutter of the picture going off, eunyu doesn't stop, tilting hyunsu's face so she can deepen it, turning around so she can straddle his lap, tongue sliding in his mouth.
the jacket move was really, really smooth, okay. )
[He blinks, a little surprised at her assessment because he wasn't really trying to be smooth. He was trying to be thoughtful, though, so he accepts the praise with a little smile.
And then...it's all kind of a blur. Eunyu in his jacket, her lips stained cherry red by her slushie, her hands against his cheek and his neck. He has half a mind to take her hand and press his lips to her fingers, but before he can do that she's leading him to the arcade and then to the photobooth.
And then she's in his lap and--did the camera go off? he's not really paying attention to anything but Eunyu--then she's kissing him and he's kissing her back because of course he is. Why wouldn't he? He pretty much always wants to kiss her. He moans softly into her mouth as he slides his tongue against hers and he can't help but want to touch her. He lifts a hand to stroke her hair.
When they inevitably have to come up for air, he's not interested in leaving, even though the machine has probably spit out their photos by now. He just nuzzles her jaw, holding her gently in his lap.]
( she really didn't mean to get carried away — although now that she's apart from him, panting a little, it's pretty obvious that a public photobooth isn't the place for it. or, well. maybe? it's private enough, the rest of the arcade only hosting a few other patrons that she saw, and full of enough 8-bit music to cover up most things. not that she's thinking about other, louder things in an expectant kind of way. it's just an observation. like looking at the split in the photobooth's curtain, where she can see no one's waiting for their turn. abruptly, she pulls the curtain the rest of the way shut, before looking back at him, a little wild in the eyes. )
Is it okay? It's risky, I know. I just, um. ( she moves against his lap, hands flattening on his chest, smoothing the shirt over his abs. eventually she gives into the impulse and just lifts up his shirt, pushing the hem into his mouth to keep it out of the way while her nails drag along the muscles his stomach, knuckles rubbing against his navel. ) Wanted, I guess.
[okay, well, actually, Hyunsu is pretty sure Eunyu pulling up his shirt and shoving it into his mouth just so she can touch him is one of the hottest things to ever happen to him. He huffs a stuttering breath around the hem of his shirt as he holds it between his teeth.
Unfortunately, it becomes obvious fairly quickly that having the hem of his shirt in his mouth makes it difficult to answer her questions or reassure her. It might also make any further kisses difficult. So, he nods once firmly and then takes the hem of his shirt in his hand and holds it up for her that way. For now. He has half a mind to just take it off, but first:]
It's okay. [He's been in this house long enough that he's not terribly worried about being caught, but he knows Eunyu was worried about that sort of thing before. There's a sort of wild desperation in her eyes and in the way she moves in his lap that he recognizes from before, in the chapel.] What do you want me to do?
no subject
It's as natural as breathing to let her take his hand as they start to walk.]
Yeah, I know where it is. [And then after a beat:] Unless it's moved.
[He hopes it hasn't moved. It would suck if their date ends up being hunting for a bowling alley rather than actually bowling. But, fortunately, as far as he can tell, the bowling alley tends to be a fairly consistent location. He's not that worried about it.
He glances at her and brushes his thumber over her knuckles.]
You look nice.
